Siemens Mobility GmbH has selected ECM S.p.A., a subsidiary of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, as a supplier for an onboard signaling subsystem for trains in circulation on Italian lines equipped with the Train Running Control System (SCMT), the national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.
Progress Rail’s STM SCMT product will be integrated with the European Train Control System (ETCS) supplied by Siemens to ensure continuity of operations on cross-border lines for freight and passenger trains.
“This is a very important project for us, as it provides the possibility of long-term cooperation with Siemens Mobility, a leading vehicle manufacturer,” said ECM Managing Director Paolo Covoni. “Fully developed, engineered and produced in Pistoia, Italy, this system showcases the quality and competitiveness of our products. Since the concept was developed in-house, it is particularly flexible and customizable to the various on-board interfaces that constitute an entire vehicle’s technological equipment,” he added.
The first project contract has been signed for Day and Night trains that Siemens Mobility is supplying directly to Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
