Electro-Motive Diesel Exhibits at 2015 Workboat Show, Showcases Commitment to Marine Customers with EMD E23 Tier 4 Engine

December 1, 2015

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – After more than seven years, Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc., a subsidiary of Progress Rail Services, a Caterpillar company, is proud to again feature its Power Products line at the International WorkBoat Show, being held this week in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event highlights maritime safety, technology, business management and government regulations for the marine industry. As a leader in the design and manufacture of dual-fuel and diesel engines, EMD will highlight its commitment to delivering the highest customer value through its latest Tier 4 engines, including those for marine applications, stationary power generation and offshore and land-based drilling rigs.

Part of EMD’s recent developments for its Power Product line includes an historic achievement in demonstrating U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 Final and International Maritime Organization III emission levels with its EMD Series 710 Model E23, medium-speed, two-cycle engine.  With these latest advancements, EMD anticipates it will receive certification of the engine to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and IMO III emissions standards.

“We are extremely pleased to offer a powerful solution that has been extensively shaped by design input straight from our customers, ranging from vessel owners and operators to naval architects and shipyards around the globe,” said Brian Grinter, EMD Director of Power Products. “Our team leveraged Caterpillar’s leading emissions reduction technology, combined with EMD’s industry leading reliability and low life cycle cost to ensure we provided customers with a product that fully recognizes their needs.”

This development, which avoided major modifications to existing vessel designs, was based upon the use of an innovative, compact selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system.

EMD will showcase various products while in New Orleans, including dual fuel injection technology, component displays and an immersive theater experience inside a tugboat.  The latter will demonstrate EMD’s response to customers’ demands for minimal space claims on new vessel design.  EMD anticipates that the new U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final design will continue to feature the lowest owning and operating costs in the industry.
