Progress Rail to Highlight EMD Arabia Joint Venture and Latest Predictive Analytics Capabilities

MOST RECENT EFFORTS SHOWCASE REGIONAL SUPPORT AND NEW DATA SCIENCE PRODUCT

March 8, 2016 – DUBAI – Progress Rail Services Corporation (Progress Rail), a Caterpillar company, and its subsidiary, Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. (EMD), today celebrated a new joint venture, Electro-Motive Diesel Arabia LLC, in conjunction with Mohawarean Railway Services Company (MRS), at the Middle East Rail Show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The companies’ combined exhibit highlights the joint venture’s efforts to provide post sale support, technical services, training and warranty support within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with an ultimate goal of serving the entire Gulf Cooperation Council states.

“We are excited to showcase our combined efforts with MRS through our new joint venture, and look forward to working together to deliver localized product and service support, with the world-class quality and reliability that Progress Rail and EMD customers have come to expect,” said Billy Ainsworth, President and CEO of Progress Rail and EMD.

“We are extremely proud of our relationship with EMD and this new joint venture is the next step in cementing our relationship, along with demonstrating EMD’s long-term presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” said Mohammed Al-Othman, President and CEO of Mohawarean International Group. “We look forward to Electro-Motive Diesel Arabia delivering world class aftermarket support to the railways and the ongoing development of regional capabilities, competencies and local employment. All this adds value to the products and services offered by our partner, EMD, to ensure success within the region is ongoing.”

In addition to this exciting step toward increased support for railway customers in the Middle East, Progress Rail and EMD also highlighted the latest intelligent analytics. Nearly a year to the day after announcing plans to collaborate with Chicago-based predictive analytics provider Uptake, the companies unveiled a demonstration of their new predictive analytics platform – EMD Uptime – at the Middle East Rail Show. As a leading provider of rolling stock and infrastructure, Progress Rail and EMD recognized the need to develop the next phase of technology to help customers transform how they manage their assets and fleets. Applying Uptake’s world-class data science, EMD Uptime delivers predictive, actionable insights to identify potential failures before they occur and recommend repairs, resulting in minimized downtime, lower costs and optimized operations.

“We constantly look for ways to help customers save time and money. With Uptake’s data analytics capabilities and our cutting edge locomotive technologies, we developed a predictive analytics platform that we will deliver substantial benefits for our customers,” Ainsworth said.

“Pairing Uptake’s innovative technology, entrepreneurial speed and agility with EMD’s world leading locomotive technologies, we have built the definitive platform for data-driven insight in the rail industry,” said Brad Keywell, CEO of Uptake. “By harnessing the power of data to eliminate unplanned downtime and maximize operational efficiency, our solution unlocks answers that create unprecedented value, and we believe it will transform the rail industry.”

Currently, the companies are working with North American Class I customers to field test the technology. The companies plan to have the product available for purchase once the tests have been completed.
