Stephen (Steve) Harris is Senior Vice President of Locomotive Operations for Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company.

Steve has spent his career in the manufacturing/supply chain management and transportation/railroad industries, working in engineering, operations, procurement, Lean/process improvement and cross-functional team leadership.

He began his career at General Electric Transportation Systems, where he worked for almost 20 years in Manufacturing, Productivity, Rail MSA Services, Supply Chain and Procurement, Lean, Six Sigma (Master Black Belt) and Executive Plant Management for Engine Manufacturing. In 2009, he joined BNSF Railway as Chief Mechanical Officer & Assistant Vice President, where he led teams within car and locomotive running repair, service and back shops, mechanical desk, detector management and engineering. He served in that capacity for almost nine years before joining Progress Rail in 2018.

In his current role, Steve has responsibility for manufacturing and supply chain operations for new locomotives and subsequent parts. He previously managed the transition of all manufacturing operations from LaGrange, Ill., to numerous internal and external locations. 

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. He resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife, Barbara, and two children.
