Mike Ramm is senior vice president of engineering for Progress Rail.

Mike began his career in LaGrange, Ill., working for General Motors (GM) as a project engineer for the EMD® engine component design and development group. After spending two years at GM, Mike joined Caterpillar, where he served for over 20 years in engineering, purchasing and management roles in Mossville, Ill. and Lafayette, Ind. 

During his tenure as product manager in the Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), he led the product development of key products including the first EPA Certified T4 dynamic gas blending engine, G3512 spark ignited land drilling engine, G3520 non-road mobile genset for the oil and gas industry, as well as extended the standby gas product portfolio. Mike also implemented an in-region for region strategy by introducing the first production of natural gas G3500 engines into Tianjin, China, to define and grow PINS in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to product development activities, through Mike’s leadership, the 3600 platform was able to achieve record production and OPACC pull-through in 2018 and 2019.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville.
