Senior Vice President of Customer Performance
Derek Bowie is senior vice president of customer performance, with responsibility for rolling stock contract maintenance, field service, modifications, and warranty for worldwide customers.
In 1997, Derek began his career with the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors as a product installation field service engineer. After two years in the field, Derek located permanently to the LaGrange, Ill., facility in technical service specializing in DC control systems and EMDEC. Derek joined the contract maintenance organization in 2000, with the charter to standardize processes and procedures across the multiple facility operation. During this role, Derek also served in a temporary assignment as manager of the commerce facility in Los Angeles, Calif. Subsequently, he was promoted to manager of contract maintenance operations and overhauls, where he drove improvements in the overhaul process through work scope and material kit standardization. In 2003, Derek was promoted to add responsibility for the warranty and modifications team. During his three-year assignment, Derek incorporated warranty material consumption and supplier recovery metrics, coupled with standardization of locomotive modification programs with controlled documentation.
In 2006, Derek continued his career as manager of the BNSF contract maintenance account and relocated to Ft. Worth, Texas, in 2008. During his tenure, Derek led improvements in safety, fleet reliability and availability performance for the newly delivered SD70ACe locomotives. Derek was promoted to director of contract maintenance operations in 2012, where he had responsibility for all contract maintenance facilities and operations. During his four years in this position, Derek implemented safety programs, standard procedures, maintenance disciplines and operating principles across all maintenance operations. As the Progress Rail customer performance department continued to grow, Derek was promoted to director of customer performance in 2016, with responsibility for contract maintenance, domestic and international field service, modifications, warranty and the repower team. In 2020, Derek was promoted to his current role.
Derek graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, minoring in Aerospace Engineering.
He resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife, three boys and daughter.
