Electro-Motive's first gas electric railcar, M300. The gas-electric railcar proved the internal combustion engine was practical on rails. With a specially designed 175 hp engine, and an electrical transmission to negate the shocks and stress of rail travel, gas-electrics like this were Electro-Motive's first products.
