Yard Cleaner
The Kershaw Model 29 Yard Cleaner cleans and removes spillage and debris from track and inter-track areas including switches. It is capable of loading more than two cubic yards of material per minute. Hydraulically raised and lowered scarifiers are mounted at the front of the machine to scarify compacted material in both the track and inter-track areas. Side mounted plows grade the inter-track area and plow the material toward each rail for sweeping and loading by the broom.

Working Unit
The primary working unit is a hydraulically driven 46 inch diameter broom equipped with 228 solid rubber sweeping elements. Material is swept from the track into a bucket elevator system which dumps the material into a discharge hopper. The hopper is equipped with a hydraulically operated vibrator to prevent the material from clogging the discharge chute. Material is then deposited onto a discharge conveyor which loads the material into an open-top rail car. The discharge conveyor will swing to either side to allow the material to be wasted to the track shoulder.
Loading
The Kershaw Yard Cleaner will load air dumps, hoppers, and gondolas with a side height of up to 12 feet above the top of the rail.
Drivetrain
The Yard Cleaner is equipped with 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel brakes with an auxiliary air brake system for applying brakes on a coupled car.
Cab
The cab is enclosed with safety glass and equipped with a dome light, windshield wipers, full instrumentation and an air conditioner/pressurization unit.
Cleaning
After cleaning with the Yard Cleaner, the track takes on a whole new appearance with fasteners and ties completely visible for easier maintenance and safer working conditions.
Tandem Rubber Tires
The optional retractable tandem rubber tires allow the Yard Cleaner to be moved between locations by TOFC or by highway. An optional dust control system reduces air-borne dust and material significantly.
