Model 26-3 Ballast Regulator
The Model 26-3 Ballast Regulator is designed for ballast shaping, shoulder profiling, ballast sweeping, and a variety of other track maintenance operations. The standard Model 26-3 is equipped with a one pass transfer plow, 36 inch wide reversible wings, and a broom attachment. There have been more Kershaw Model 26 Ballast Regulators placed in service on the world’s railways than any other model or brand by any manufacturer. The Model 26-3-6 is the latest generation of the Model 26 series and the best yet. If you are searching for an economical, powerful, fast Ballast Regulator, you have found it.
The standard Model 26 is fitted with a cab controlled, hydraulically adjustable one pass transfer plow for plowing in, plowing out, transferring ballast or distributing ballast. 36 inch wide reversible wings are hydraulically controlled from the operator's cab. Each wing is raised, lowered, and positioned to meet various track profiles by means of hydraulic cylinders and a cable winch equipped with an enclosed motor and brake.

Cab
A one man cab with tinted windows is standard for the Model 26 Regulator. The cab is ISO mounted and sealed. Pressurization is provided by a roof mounted self-contained air conditioner/heater. Maintenance can be performed without having to work under a dangerously tilted cab with this design. A walk-through rear deck allows cab access from either side. A digital propelling control is used to eliminate radio interference.
Broom
Attached to the rear of the Ballast Regulator, the broom is hydraulically controlled from the operator's cab. The broom is used in track dressing operations to remove ballast from the tops of ties, to fill empty cribs, and to place excess ballast out on the shoulders. A broom reel equipped with 228 sweeping elements is mounted in the broom housing. The broom can be very effective for sweeping though a switch. A one-direction broom is standard with a reversible broom available as optional equipment. Belt drive and a round broom housing are also optional.
Wings
Each wing is raised and lowered by means of a cable winch equipped with an enclosed motor and brake. Hydraulic cylinders are used to place the templates in position. The wings are reversible to enable profiling the shoulders in either direction. The Model 26 wings can be equipped with optional plow-away blades to remove the shoulder ballast entirely and scarifier teeth to deweed and scarify the shoulders.
