Our Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) Division was born out of the movement toward mechanization in the railroad industry in the 1940s with Kershaw. Kershaw introduced the first self-powered ballast regulator in 1945 and was the first company to manufacture several other MOW machines now used on railroads throughout the world.
Kershaw became part of the Progress Rail family in 1998. Today, the Progress Rail MOW Division is a global supplier of a comprehensive range of maintenance-of-way Kershaw equipment, providing machines to all US Class I railroads, most transit and short lines and many contractors around the world. Equipment line includes Ballast Regulators, Tie Cranes, Scarifiers, Tie Replacers, Shoulder Ballast Cleaners, Sand Removal, Snow Removal, Utility and Vegetation Control Vehicles and CAT Excavator / Hi-Rail Equipment.
