Progress Rail’s Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) division was born out of the movement toward mechanization in the railroad industry and introduced the first Kershaw Ballast Regulator in 1945.

Today, Progress Rail supplies Kershaw MOW equipment, providing machines to all Class I railroads, transit and short lines and contractors around the world.

Kershaw’s 55-foot, 3-stage telescopic square boom can be mounted to a Cat® TH255 Telehandler for United States markets or a Mercedes Unimog for Eurpoean markets.

The SkyTrim mini is a compact single operator selfcontained tree trimming machine based on a telehandler. The upper unit is a three stage insulated telescopic boom manufactured from thick walled fiberglass equipped with a single large saw blade with a cutting height of 55 feet (17 Metres). The boom is capable of rotating on its own axis (180 degrees) providing for accurate cutting of tree limbs at any angle. The entire boom assembly rotates on a slewing ring providing 10 degrees of movement which allows the boom and saw blade 8 ft of side to side movement at the blade tip, allowing for extreme cutting accuracy without repositioning the entire machine. The upper tree trimmer is mounted on a telescopic handler base machine equipped with the latest tier 4 engine, 4 wheel steer and crab steer providing a highly maneuverable stable machine package. The operator cab is EROPS certified, air conditioned and comes fitted with radio, tinted glass and external screen guards with optional beaconand light kits.

 

Technical Details

 

Weight: Approximately 13,280 lbs (6024 kg) with standard 12.00 x 16.5 tires.

 

Engine: Cat TD 2.9L L4 Deutz diesel engine rated for 74hp (55kW) . Meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards.

 

Transmission and Axles: Hydrostatic transmission with forward/reverse shifter on steering column. Forward and reverse speeds are variable based on engine rmp. Axles are Spicer Planetary axles on front and rear. High bias limited slip differential on front axle.

 

Wheels, Tires and Brakes: Wheels and tires: 16.5 “ wheels with 12.00 x 16.5 tires. No options. Service brakes: Inboard wet disc on front axle. Parking Brake: Wet disc spring-applied hydraulic release.

 

Hydraulic System: Engine flywheel drives a closed loop hydrostatic pump used for propel. Engine auxiliary PTO drives open loop gear pump used for hydraulic work functions. 4- section directional control valve with hydraulic actuators operates the boom up/down, boom in/out, boom rotate, and boom swing. 4 section directional control valve with 12VDC solenoid actuators operate saw on/off, outriggers up/down, and boom slide.

 

Electrical System: 12 volt dc negative ground. 75 amp alternator, color coded and numbered wiring. Includes lights, horn, amber strobe light, and back up alarm.

Cab: Fully enclosed, insulated, and air conditioned cab with ergonomic hydraulic piloted joystick used for boom functions.

 

Boom: Telescoping composite construction with 55 ft. (16.76m) reach from ground. Telescoping boom driven with #50 chain. Each unit is electrically insulated and tested to ANSI A92.2-2001 Category C standards to 100 kV for maximum operator safety. Equipped with single 24 inch (609.6mm) diameter carbide-tipped saw turning @ 2800 rpm.
