Automobile Scrapping

Automotive Recycling

Approximately 15 million vehicles per year are removed from the road in the United States due to age or damage. Industry associations report that 95% of these vehicles are recycled. The automotive recycling industry plays an integral role in the efficient and environmentally friendly disposal of these vehicles. Automotive recycling preserves natural resources, is more energy efficient than production of new replacement parts, and ensures the contaminants from end of life vehicles (ELV's) are kept out of the environment.

Environmental Processing

Progress Rail embraces their Corporate responsibility for environmental stewardship and uses state of the art equipment and procedures to process all vehicles before they are recycled. Vehicles are isolated where the fuel, oils, antifreeze, power steering fluid, and brake fluid are removed from the vehicle. The type of freon in the vehicle is identified and then recovered for recycling. Mercury switches, batteries, and wheel weights are removed to help keep heavy metals out of the environment. Once all of the potential environmental contaminants are removed, the vehicles are either shredded or sent to a parts yard.

Auto Parts

Many vehicles still have usable parts remaining when they meet their end of life. These parts are inspected, inventoried, labeled and available for resale at Progress Rail auto salvage yards. Computerized inventory makes finding the right parts fast and easy and makes our inventory easily searchable by anyone over the internet. Our parts are of very high quality and are subjected to detailed inspection before they are ever sold. These rigid inspection procedures enable us to provide a warranty on all of our parts. Reuse is the first step in recycling and Progress Rail Services is an industry leader in all aspects of recycling.
