Progress Rail Services, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., is a major supplier of products and services to the rail industry throughout North America and the world. We focus on two main areas: Locomotive & Railcar Services and Engineering & Track Services. We are based in Albertville, AL.
Progress Rail was founded in 1982. Our emphasis has always been on delivering quality materials, offering experienced and reliable service, and providing unprecedented convenience to our customers. We work hard to anticipate and meet the needs of our customers through our integrated, full-service capabilities.
In the track area, we provide rail, trackwork, signals, maintenance-of-way equipment and rail welding. Above the tracks, we provide locomotive and railcar service, reconditioned parts, wheels, axles and bearings. Our recycling and brokerage group oversees the reclamation of used rail, wrecked and retired railcars and locomotive, and other scrap metal.
What sets us apart from other companies is our integration, our network of facilities and our experience. No other supplier provides a full line of locomotive, railcar, track, track equipment, rail welding and signal products and services.
INTEGRATION
When locomotives and railcars are retired, we refurbish the parts that are reusable, incorporating them into our extensive inventory, and then scrap the rest of the material. When track is replaced, we refurbish the sections that are usable, and we can also use sections to construct new panels and turnouts. We can also manufacture new track. When locomotives and railcars need repair, we can tap into our full inventory of parts to make whatever repairs are needed to keep your fleet rolling. Our ability to safely recycle material while also extending the life of any viable components allows us to offer a full range of services and products to our customers, making us their no. 1 choice for all of their rail needs.
